UNMC recently broke ground on the CORE (Campus Operations and Research Excellence) Building, a transformative new facility that will provide the wet and dry lab space critical for turning life-saving biomedical research into real-world products. Unlike startups in other industries, biotech ventures require highly specialized infrastructure, which the CORE Building will deliver—supporting areas like microbiology, genetics, and pathology. UNMC leaders, including Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, and UNeMed President Michael Dixon, PhD, highlighted the building’s role in fueling innovation, growing startups, and driving economic impact for the city and state. As the anchor of UNMC’s Saddle Creek Campus and neighbor to the soon-to-open Catalyst building, the CORE Building will foster collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and entrepreneurs—creating ideal conditions for breakthroughs in precision medicine, drug development, and targeted therapies. Completion is expected in early 2026.
