The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has unanimously approved the program statement for UNMC’s new CORE Building (Campus Operations and Research Excellence), marking a major milestone for the emerging Saddle Creek Campus in Omaha. Designed to support UNMC’s growing research enterprise, the CORE Building will house wet lab and computer-based research focused on drug discovery, oncology, and other strategic areas, while also offering leasable lab space and ground-floor retail. Strategically located next to the Catalyst building—home to UNeMed, UNeTech, and biotech startups—the CORE Building is poised to become a hub for research, innovation, and commercialization. The facility will also include administrative offices and shared amenities, and connect to a new city-funded parking garage, with future plans for a pedestrian bridge linking it to the main academic campus. Construction begins this fall, with completion expected in early 2026.
