U.S. News again ranks Nebraska Medical Center No. 1

Nebraska Medical Center remains the No. 1-rated hospital in Nebraska.

The honor is an elite distinction that only 13% of evaluated hospitals receive — a U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals designation. This year, more than 4,400 hospitals were evaluated nationwide. Rankings are based on factors such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care.

“Being ranked as the best hospital in the state for 14 straight years is something each colleague who works here can be extremely proud of,” said Michael Ash, MD, Nebraska Medicine CEO. “All of our patients should know that being the best in the state also means we are committed to providing the safest and highest quality care available.”

The Nebraska Medicine Gastroenterology and GI surgery program achieved a national ranking, placing it in the top 50 nationally.

Six other specialties were listed as high performing:

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology, heart and vascular surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Neurology and neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Pulmonary and lung surgery

Ten procedures and conditions also received the highest possible ranking of high performing:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
  • Back surgery
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Diabetes
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Kidney failure
  • Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
  • Pneumonia
  • Prostate cancer surgery
  • Stroke

The Best Hospitals specialty rankings methodology and procedures and conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.
