UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, was joined by U.S. Rep. Don Bacon and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert to announce exciting progress on two pedestrian and bike walkways that will enhance safety and connectivity around UNMC’s Omaha campus. With an additional $2 million in federal funding secured through Rep. Bacon’s support, the project will now advance construction of walkways over both Saddle Creek Road and Leavenworth Street—connecting the Field Club Trail to the campus near the Lauritzen Outpatient Center. Backed by UNMC, the City of Omaha, and previous federal grants, these walkways are part of a larger vision to create a safer, more accessible, and bike-friendly environment for the campus and surrounding neighborhoods. City and campus leaders highlighted the project’s role in improving traffic flow, supporting Vision Zero goals, and strengthening ties between the medical center and the community it serves.
