New ‘EDGE District’ seen as giving Omaha-based UNMC an edge in growing global reputation

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) officially unveiled the name of its emerging innovation district west of Saddle Creek Road as the “EDGE District,” an acronym for Explore, Develop, Grow, Engage. Spanning approximately 30 acres, the EDGE District will serve as a dynamic extension of UNMC’s campus and a hub for research, entrepreneurship, and community activity. Anchored by the Catalyst innovation hub and the under-construction CORE research facility, the district is designed to foster health science startups, translational research, and industry partnerships. With plans to integrate retail, dining, housing, and green space alongside academic and research infrastructure, the EDGE District reflects UNMC’s commitment to global leadership in health innovation while contributing to Omaha’s urban core vibrancy and economic development.
