Work approaching around Saddle Creek Development

UNMC’s Saddle Creek Development is set to accelerate this summer with several key projects breaking ground. Major activity includes construction on public infrastructure improvements—new roads, sidewalks, lighting, and traffic signals—through a joint effort with the City of Omaha. A centrally located parking garage will also begin construction, timed to open alongside the district’s first buildings. The Catalyst project, which will house UNMC’s Innovation Hub and provide space for biotech and tech startups, is moving into its construction phase with completion expected by December 2024. Simultaneously, work will begin on the CORE building, a new administrative and research facility designed to replace an outdated structure and accommodate UNMC’s growing research enterprise, with completion targeted for early 2026. The site, formerly Omaha Steel Castings, will also see improved traffic flow and safety through a new intersection at Saddle Creek and Leavenworth in 2024. A formal name and brand for the district is expected to be announced later this year.
