UNMC celebrates groundbreaking of Catalyst

UNMC celebrated the groundbreaking of the Innovation Hub at Catalyst, a major redevelopment project located at 48th and Saddle Creek Road that will serve as a dynamic hub for entrepreneurship, biomedical innovation, and economic growth. The event brought together key leaders, including Gov. Jim Pillen, Sen. Pete Ricketts, Mayor Jean Stothert, and University of Nebraska President Ted Carter, who praised the project as a symbol of Nebraska’s collaborative spirit and forward-thinking investment. Set to open in late 2024, Catalyst will unite UNMC’s UNeMed and UNeTech branches under one roof, while also offering leasable space to biotech and technology startups in a revitalized 1906 industrial building. Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, emphasized that the facility will accelerate lab-to-market innovation, support job creation, and reinforce UNMC’s commitment to improving lives through research, discovery, and public-private partnership.
