Final beam placed at EDGE District’s CORE Building

On February 7, the final beam was placed on UNMC’s CORE (Center of Research Excellence) building, a 180,000-square-foot, $105 million facility located in the EDGE District and slated to open in mid-2026. Designed to support both wet lab and computer-based research, the CORE building will serve UNMC faculty and external partners, offering state-of-the-art incubator space for bioscience startups. UNMC leaders see the facility as a catalyst for reversing brain drain, enhancing Nebraska’s biotech industry, and fostering collaboration among researchers, students, and industry innovators.

Positioned as a cornerstone of the EDGE District—a 30-acre health innovation hub—the CORE building complements the adjacent Catalyst facility and reflects a broader vision to make Omaha a national destination for life sciences, entrepreneurship, and translational research.
